The drops of blood led a clean trail to the center of the cave. At its source, a pool of blood, a Spartan lay against a wall. Helmet and weapon laying beside him, the man cast his gaze to the roof of the small cave he was residing within. He had his combat knife out and was carving something into the cave floor.
Too much blood loss… thought the Spartan.
The knife fell; he shifted his gaze to his abdomen. Two holes were the points where the blood was gushing out of. The solider once again let his head fall back to the cave wall and closed his eyes. No help would come. No medic. No back up. He already knew he was considered a casualty. His hand scanned his belt. Two fragmentation grenades were all that was left attached. He felt around for the assault rifle at his side.
28 rounds left in the chamber thought the Spartan as he read the mini display screen on the gun.
The Spartan reached for his helmet and placed it back on his head. With all the strength he could gather, he brought himself to his feet, one arm firmly gripping his rifle, the other bracing himself against the wall of the cave. The HUD system had just activated when he noticed a red dot approaching on the radar. He also heard the footsteps of someone descending from one of the entrances to the cave.
Heh, seems he has come to claim his kill
The soldier ceased his dependence on the wall for support and stood with full pride. As he took his first step in the direction of the enemy he staggered. He knew he was going to die. Whether the killer had decided to pursue him or not, his time was over. As he was hunched over, gripping his disfigured torso, the sight of his clan emblem on his forearm armor plate caught his attention. The dot was in the middle of his radar. Time had passed to quickly. He felt the barrel of rifle against the base of his helmet. He turned around to face his executioner. Despite the tremendous pain, he smirked behind the mask. He then moved his hand to be in view of the killer. He heard a small chuckle from the enemy as he saw what he was holding. Two active grenades. |
