Chapter 16
“Rockets inbound!!” Shouted Luna from the entryway of the blue base residing in Blood Gulch.
The Major General ran back deeper into the center of the base where the rest of her battalion lay. 4 rockets collided at the wall perpendicular to the entry way she was just in. They were the reinforcement unit. And reinforcements were called 20 minutes ago by Battalion Two. The commander of B2 was cut off before he could deliver the location to Luna, the B3 commander. She wondered what happened to her comrade. She was helpless and trapped within the blue base. The moment they battalion had moved out from the base, they were cut but rockets and sniper fire, forcing them back within the base. Luna looked at her squadron. Skyline and Junky didn’t make it during the retreat. Boxhead and Kitty were leaning against a wall wounded from the fall back as well. Luna, Code, Savior and Ulric were attempting to fight back at the enemy, darting in and out from the entryways. Little success. Voodoo and Ledapus, also lying against a wall within the base clutching their shoulders, were already injured from their contribution to take down the enemy. They did however determine that there were only two enemies. And that their location was along the cliff and cave just left of the base they were trapped in.
The FC’s were not moving forward however. While they clearly out skilled the ZAs, they were outnumbered still. They were out of grenades from the initial ambush. Invading was not their intention however. In fact, killing was not either. Prevent reinforcements and kill only when needed were the orders given to Coyote and Nugget. Their leaders were still going to need test subjects. Another reason for the war. They scoffed at the petty attempts of fighting back from some of the ZAs, fighting the urge to simply pick them off.
Luna knew they would have to run out of ammunition eventually. They were only a 2 man team. They wouldn’t have carried too much on them. The best she could hope for was her team could wear them down and eventually run to aid their clansmen. If there was anyone left to help.
“THROW THE FRAGS BACK!!” screamed EZRab, following the orders he just gave. His clansmen barely able to return the rest as the grenades exploded in the air.
Bagels, the B2 commander was down. The last series of grenades that the battalion was showered by took out the commander’s left arm and leg. He was barely clingy to life. Drk was giving the veteran all the medical aid he knew. Luckily, it was enough to keep him breathing. EZRab took up command in his place.
The team was cornered back against the very hill that the five man squad held their own against hoards of zombies. Only the undead was not the enemy; it was Banana and Slimjim. Although the ZAs had the upper ground, they were constantly bombarded with grenades, sniper fire, and the occasional rocket. The Brigadier General leaned against the rock at the top of the hill and looked back at his rattled team. Every single one of them was trying to get a shot off. Prone, crouched, behind the few rocks that were on the hill, his team was not going to go down easily. Cnet and Freeze managed to push the FC’s back into the red base of Blood Gulch.
B3 should have arrived already. Where are they… thought EZRab, reading his assault rifle. He won’t make it if we can’t get him transported back to MainOps…
The new commander joined his team and fired at the red base hoping his bullets would find a target.
~~~~~
The center was an entirely different story. B1 was sent to confront the enemy head on. Carnage’s unit was ducking in and out of hills throwing grenades and firing their rifles, each time hoping they wouldn’t lose their head. The Commander, was currently in contact with the commander of the Commando Squadron, Black Adder.
The CIC’s squad was in the shadows just right of the red base. They were attempting to give aid to both B1 and B2 by providing another line of fire the enemy would have to watch for. Tulip’s reticule found an enemy Spartan behind the hill in front of red base, firing 2 rounds from his sniper rifle across the landscape. The scream of a comrade came over her com right after. Just as she was about to pull her trigger, the enemy in her sight snapped strait to her. She heard a wiz and the feeling in her right arm ceased to exist.
Either a bot, or we finaly found Cookie thought the ZA as she collapsed to her knees clutching her shoulder.
Chapter 17
“I just lost Dudeman!” screamed the B1 General over the com.
“One of mine just got shot too. Looks like her shoulder. Carn we need you to move forward.” Responded the CIC, Adder. “If you don’t, they are going to pin us here.”
“I’m sending two of my men back to check up on Luna’s squad. Bagels’ called for aid a while ago and I haven’t seen a sign of her team.” Replied Carnage.
“Understood. We will try to give you some cover.” Adder stated. “As soon as your two men are clear, I am moving my squad into the caves. We need to get my soldier back to HQ.”
“Yessir. Carnage out.” Said Carnage, as he closed the channel.
The Commander opened his team channel and gave his orders.
“Slo, Sinder. Go up through the cave behind us and check in with the 3RD Battalion back at Blue Base. The Commando Squad will give you cover but get into cover fast.” Ordered Carnage.
“Yessir!” replied the two called.
Carnage resumed his routine of ducking in and out of the hills letting off as much rounds as possible before feeling the wiz of enemy fire. He already lost two men; he was determined to not let another clansman fall.
~~~~~~
“LISTEN UP! Concentrate all fire to those hills in front of red base. We need to give some cover to B1.” Ordered Adder. “OPEN FIRE!”
With those two words his entire team shot their rifles and chucked their frags towards the ordered locations. Enemy fire now seemed to be responding directly to their actions. The ZA’s fired slowed in response but still remained a continuous flow. While one man reloaded, another took up his spot and fired.
~~~~~~
“Looks like their trying to provide some sort of cover by attempting to get our attention.” Said Wings, now in prone, taking cover behind the hills.
“I can see two trying to make their way to the cave by blue base.” Responded Cookie, his refuge being a large rotten tree.
“You haven’t taken them out yet?” asked his comrade, firing 2 rounds towards the hills in the shadows.
“No.” replied the sniper, repeating similar actions. “Coyote and Nugget are stationed there. I’ll let them handle those two. Besides, I’m just about ready to take out this annoying team clinging to the dark.”
“Commander…” Althor, posted at the ruble of the East Gate, started over the com.
“What is is corporal?” replied the General, Buck.
“2 hogs inbound.” Responded Althor. “Orders?”
“Light them up.”
