Is it wireless? If it is wireless it is possible for the button to be reassigned to another key, possibly on your keyboard. I suggest reinstalling any driver that came with the mouse, then unplugging and re-plugging it. Giving it a through clean is good too, maybe use a blow dryer on a low setting to clean any dust accumulated within.
If it is wired, not much I know. You can try cleaning it in the same way, disassemble it to see if something looks obviously wrong.
Other than that.. do a Google search.

Switch the mouse button from left to right if you don't want to buy a new one at the moment. and for copy paste use ctr-c and ctr-v
you can change the mouse settings at control panel.

If the left click of the mouse broke, then it's time for you to buy a new one. My old Razer left click broke due to too much clicking with my hax. xD

It should be on the Start Menu, and should say "Control panel". What windows version do you have?

Ive had this problem with my wireless mouse and i have windows vista btw.
1. On the back of the mouse, like not the part with the Left and right click, opposite it, i want you to press really hard on that part.
2. Try to find an opening in the left click (under the plastic) and blow your hardest!
3. If none of those are working, i suggest to replace batteries if wireless.
4. This is the last step, if it is wireless, disconnect all devices from the wireless adapter and re-connect them all. if it is wired, i think you might wanna buy a new one.

Just a get a new one. So much simpler. They have them at walmart for like $15. Or you could take this time to upgrade to a gaming mouse with adjustable dpi, weights and other features.

How could this have been caused? I didn't do anything wrong at all. Did it malfunction?
