Before you criticize people, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them…
you are a mile away from them…
and you have their shoes.

It has to do with what your body is comfortable with sleeping hours.
Like me, if I sleep 5 hours, I feel like Superman when I wake up. But if I sleep 8 hours, I feel like crap throughout the whole day.
You just have to know what your body needs/likes, don't listen to the people that tell you to sleep 7 to 8 hours a night. That's actually unhealthy if it's not for your body.
Everyone's body is different.
Btw, this only applies to adults. Young people, kids, and babies need their sleep, they are growing and developing fast. |

Wait till your my age. The 4-5 hour thing doesn't work out so well. The 6-8 hour thing feels much better |

I believe I read somewhere that feeling tired after you 'sleep too long' has something to do with being dehydrated. Try taking a drink when you wake up; might help.

I think it's mostly to do with sleeping cycles.
Regardless of how you feel though, it's unhealthy to have less than 8 hours sleep. You might feel fine but your body will not be fine in reality. Your muscles will be over-strained, your brain will slowly deteoriate from over-strain and eventually you will feel very depressed.
Basically, in the short term, you'll be absolutely fine. In the long term though, you'll cause damage to your body with short sleeping cycles. |

I learned in psych that your body needs its sleep. However, if you wake up between a sleep cycle, you will feel energized and happy. If you wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle, you will feel bad and grumpy. The link that ninja has is really helpful if you want to find out when to wake up or fall asleep.

Master is right, the reason you are tired is due to sleep cycles.
A full sleep cycle for the average adult lasts 90 minutes, broken into 4 different periods, one of the most commonly known period is the REM (REM, Rapid Eye Movement, is where dreams occur).
To get a better nights rest, try to fall asleep around the same time every night and wake up in the morning at the same time. Even if you wake up halfway through a cycle, you will still be rested because your body will be conditioned to this response. (Read about Classical/Operant Conditioning on Wikipedia)
