This is more a suggestion than a complaint, but from what I've noticed, 50 percent of people who play rankwarz quit because they can't figure out the rules. No offense, but the ZA servers have been a bit dead lately and I want to try and get them going again. I was thinking maybe a scripted message for everyone immediately when they join the server, explaining all the rules directly to their faces. Most folks don't know the @ commands to figure out how to play, so this could be a good way to give them an incentive to play more. Just my thoughts, cause rankwarz sure is more fun when people are there.

Yeah, the servers have been dead. What's wierd is if I go on any stat server, or Pro2, and im alone, the server starts to fill up o_O it was wierd lol. Happened to me the 4 times I went to alpha stats, and pro2

I think a problem with the server lies in the inability to get new players past the first rank rather than the commands.
I mean, it's all right when there are at least three or four people with plasma pistols, since everyone's on a level playing field. The problem starts when a sniper or ninja joins and then it's so one-sided it's not funny and the pain scales the more "advanced" players get in the server; 20 kills to get the pistol class is rather difficult when you have nothing but a dinky plasma pistol and a stunted health bar to begin with. The needler can get you some surprise kills, though- but that just begs the question, what's the plasma pistol class for?
Can we show mercy to new players? I mean, there's a difference when everyone has at least soldier class, because then they can at least provide a reasonable fight back and challenge from constant grenades, shotguns or snipers; to where your targets are unable to even close the distance to you because you can cut them down ridiculously easily every time they spawn away from a powerup or evade their needler-fire. They're just fodder and free points until they quit (out of frustration) or the game ends.
Either that or I suggest that an augmentation to the points system in that weapons are scaled to provide different rewards (say, 30 points for a plasma pistol kill, Needler supercombines are 20 points, Pistols, melee, other weapons and maybe grenades are 10, and shotguns/snipers/heavies are 5 points or no points each.)
Obviously the numbers aren't set in stone, but I feel the server doesn't accomodate for everyone, just the people that have played forever and have everything unlocked.
Just my 2p.

I agree with moony that the problem isn't so much the rules. Generally there is always a ZA member in there, or one of our friends that understand how everything works quite well and we/they are always willing to help and do help.
It would be hard to level the playing field in the sense that everyone uses the same gun. It takes away from the point of "ranking". The "ranking" allows the players who have been there, showing loyalty if you will, to have an advantage over others. I understand that it is frustrating, I feel that way every time Tina shows up in the server lol, but at the same time I don't really feel bad because we were all at that level at one point or another, but we toughed it out and worked our way up.
I do like your last option Moony, about augmenting the point system. I do feel that plasma and needler kills should be given more points. I disagree that the other ranks should be lower than 10pts. I think the needler and plasma kills could be 25pts and the others stay at 10pts. This allows the beginners to only need 8 kills to get to the soldier rank and hopefully make life easier for everyone.

A combination of both could help out quite a bit, a message and more points for the crappy starting classes. Though I've noticed that the newbies don't actually get helped out by other players unless they directly ask, they are usually just ignored because they are easy meat for the rest of us. They tend to just quit cause they get bored.
And also Moony you're right, some players just aren't very good and can't hold up against ridiculous powerhouses like Tina with only a plasma pistol, no chance. Hell I can't even kill her more than a couple times to her 50 kills when I'm using a sniper rifle. I think the starting classes are just too useless compared to all the other "experienced" players.

If they luck out on the winning team 4 times, they can get soldier class, otherwise getting 20 kills over a few games isn't impossible.

i think that for right now, it should be so any member in, if he sees a new person, say "type "@gameplay" for more info on how to play" and, "To get a better weapon type "@buy spiker" "@change spiker", at least until slim puts in a auto message

i disagree in all of the above. The plasma pistol is as equal to the pistol as the plasma rifle is to the AR.
Just because you are terrible at using it does not mean we should give you more points per kill with it.
lol but i see where this has gone so why do i even bother

A common defense of those who are unable to stand their ground in an argument is to redirect blame onto the person of the opposing side of the argument. Nonetheless, I probably do- I used the Needler to get to Soldier- but that's not the point.
So.
The only range the PP beats out the Pistol is at extreme close range via overcharge/melee, and that requires you to have not been sniped by one of the other classes, hit by a heavy weapon, or outright killed at close range before you can melee. You also spawn with half health which makes it even less likely you'll close the distance before dying unless you grab health or a powerup. The individual shots of the PP deal laughable damage and the person you're attacking will giggle like a schoolgirl and cut you down before you ever close the gap to melee.
The pistol is a weapon good for all ranges, it takes five shots (three with a HS) to kill someone with a decent fire rate, and can be used to reliably combat close quarters weapons (Needler, Plasma Rifle/Pistol, Flamethrower, Shotgun) from a distance as well as provide a sporting chance against snipers at mid range. It's a solid weapon and probably the best all around weapon in the game.
The pistol severely outclasses the plasma pistol in all but a minority of situations and you would be a fool to think otherwise. "But I know what I'm doing and you don't!" is no counter-argument. If a theoretical fight were to take place between the best Plasma Pistol user and the best Pistol user were to take place- just firing, no melee, the Pistoleer would win every time. Now try that fight with half health. Now try that fight with the pistoleer replaced with a sniper (which now one-shots you no matter what) or Juggernaut (2x health, better close range weapon)
It is horrendously difficult to get kills with the plasma pistol if you are outclassed, which happens at an exponential rate. It's much less so with the needler since you can just rattle off needles at an unwary opponent and guerilla tactic kills, but the PP is pretty much useless.
