Hey everyone,
There is an article and video I would like you all to watch about Rape Culture (the machisimo movement that began with the dawn of man that raises boys to believe they can have anything they are strong enough to take by force, including women).
After reading and watching, comment on the following:
Who is to blame for the rape in Ohio?
Is what happen to the girl in Ohio bad? Why? Why not? How bad?
What do you think about the opinions of the man in the video? Do you agree or disagree?
Do have anything to add to what was said or something to argue against?

The coaches and the idiots who raped the girl im pretty sure convicted murderers dont like a few things in jail. 1.rape . 2. Child murder or anythin child related death. And 3. Hit your mother infact rapists have to be put away from the general population because they WILL get killed. Rape isnt ok , and regardless if they didnt know it was rape, why do that to a girl while shes fucked up? Its sad

After watching the video and reading the article, I have come to the following conclusions.
1. The college students are responsible for the rape, but the fact that they think they can get get away with it is worse.
2. The incident is definitely "bad", it is wrong because the girl gave no consent as she was hammered. This would be like raping someone with down syndrome who couldn't say no.
3. I agree with his opinions, though I don't like how he directed the video at parents, it seems like something that would be much better if shown at a high school or somewhere similar.
The coach pisses me off the most, he is probably some redneck who legitimately believes that rape is okay, and he is in charge of teaching students. No wonder some kids get the wrong idea with influences like that.

Rape aint ok... an i hate the fact they got away with it. i mean seriously everyone should no messing with someone while asleep drunk an cant say no is rape. i mean like wtf an the coach omg i wanna rape him with a broom stick while hes drunk an say oh well wasnt rape. an see what happens i mean come on now. that is bs an those boys. wow come on have more morals if u cant get laid by a girl while shes sober then ur just not good enough face it.
i just find this topic really touchy.

This kind of thing happens alot where I'm from, too. I'm guessing it happens everywhere. First, no one should be getting that drunk - no matter the age or sex of the person. Secondly, when you're out partying you always need to have a buddy to take care of you and who you will take care of. Third, no one in the world should be teaching anyone else that a woman is theirs for the taking. Violence against women and children are some of the most prevalent crimes in the world. The most common assailant is male (that's a fact).
Where does the problem start? The media? The culture? At home? School? Friends?
What are some of the solutions?

This is quite a hot topic in the UK at the moment as allegations regarding Jimmy Saville and others hit the headlines. Front page on the paper I got this afternoon.

I don't think you can really pinpoint with whom the blame lies. Certainly some must rest with the boys for not thinking for themselves, but also with those who have influenced their attitude and decisions over the years, as ModPrimate himself claims.

I think it's bad. Regardless of her state of self-induced vulnerability, there was no reason for her to be victimised. The boys clearly and objectively took advantage of her, embarrassed her, and most probably scarred her for life. They have no right, as far as I'm concerned, to negatively affect her life in such a way - it is a violation of her privacy.

Certainly on the whole, I agree with him. I would perhaps put more emphasis on the way in which girls often portray themselves however. Around where I live, girls and young women wearing ridiculously short skirts, revealing tops, and stilt-like heels is highly commonplace. The objectified image of women shouldn't be there in the first place, but I don't think you can deny that many young women aren't fighting it and some could even be said to be enforcing it! Dress provocatively, and you can expect to provoke. It takes an effort from everybody to make change, and girls dressing up (dare I say) like prostitutes really doesn't help.

It's sad that these horrific events takes place daily around the world, but the issue is so much tied up in the fabric of how society functions these days, we're a long way off eradicating the problem.

All of the above. The media are very damaging, encouraging the image of celebrities as eye candy, popularising pseudo-relationships, and the like. It's despicable. Culture is tied-in with everything else, so is definitely a factor. Home experience is different for everyone, but I can imagine parents having a particularly bad impact on their children. In these situations, friends are a big issue - peer pressure can be very dangerous and the 'mob'/'gang' attitude also stops people from thinking about what they really want to do. The list of causes goes on, but it all comes down to ...
What are some of the solutions?
Education, without a doubt. Not drilling our own philosophies and morals into children's heads, but encouraging them to think about their attitudes and their actions. When they learn to critically review stereotypes, society's expectations ... anything without explanation - then they will develop an astute moral compass, a sense of mutual respect for others and for themselves, and lead better lives.

well i totaly agree with this guy in the video,who ever rapes somebody should get shot if you ask me,and im not jkin..
So i dont have to repeat it that often: Im from Poland and i live in Germany lol
You can tellem that ive been through hell and back

I disagree. Why do you think they should be shot?
Rape is bad, but killing is also bad (if not worse!). Would it not be much better to give them time to realise their mistake, learn how to respect, and perhaps even contribute positively to society?
