Ever wonder why ash has an over powered pikachu at the start? Why misty and brock leave their all important jobs at the gym to go with ash? Why does red look like ash?
Red is ash's older brother after all, ash is a mediocre trainer, which would explain why ash wants to be better.. Due to being older he began his pokemon journey first. He beat the gyms, the pokemon league, and took down the biggest crime organization in the world. he then disappeared for 3 years and wasn't found until gold made it to the top of mount silver. After his defeat at mount silver, Red sent his pikachu to professor oak for ash to start with. this is why pikachu is so over powered from the beginning without any obvious training from ash, as well as why it ignores ash in the beginning (in the games you have to have a number of badges for higher lelvels to obey you) when you battle red in gold,silver and crystal, red's pikachu conviently is lvl 81, thus making team rocket confused and thinking that a new trainer with a powerful pikachu isnt possible.. Ash aspires to be just like his older brother. Brock and misty recognized ash and left their home towns even though they had important jobs to do there so that they could take care of their old friends brother.
