Today, while on the Halo Zombie Mod Stats Test Server, I was treated unfairly by one of your admins. I encourage you to pull up the server logs from today (May 21, around 5:45-6PM PST) for a fair and accurate picture of what I describe below. I was playing under my normal name, Labidochrom.
It began when someone was talking about Rambo (the movie character), and I said that if you take away his guns he is just a roided out freak that can't wipe his own ass. That's it. That's all I said.
ZA Ezrab, immediately told me to watch my language.
According to what I have been told, and seen others told countless times by other admins on your servers, I did nothing wrong. But, since I have also been told completely contrary things by other admins on your servers, I asked "once and for all what is the language rule on your servers?" After ZA Ezrab implied that I was "making up" my statement that other admins have painted a different picture of what the rules actually are, (simply because I never cared enough about it to write down their names when it happened), I was told to come here to read the rules (which I later did). He went on to explained that if a swear word is not "needed", it is considered to be excessive. To which I replied that by that logic, when you take into account that a swear word is never actually "needed" or "necessary", anytime a person swears it would be considered against the rules. This is completely contrary to the rules that are listed on this website, which I quote below:
Cussing is allowed in server; however, using excessive bad words that are directed at another player/admin/clan is NOT allowed. Also, EXPLICITLY sexual language is not allowed. Examples: A player may say, “Fuck, that sucks,” but they may NOT say, “Fuck you Raz!” Also, derogatory, homophobic and racist language and comments are NOT allowed. A player may say, “I love gay people,” but they may NOT say, “You guys are fags!” Many "bad words" are blocked from being typed in the chat. Do not try to find creative ways to spell words in order to circumvent the filters. We know what you are trying to say and it is still against the rules.
When I said "ass" is was not directed towards any other players in the server. It was not sexually explicit. It was not homophobic or racist. It was not blocked by a language filter, nor did I try and avoid any filter.
During the course of this discussion, I was falsely accused of having been banned for my language in the past, under an alias. Apparently the player "nucking futs" (a regular in several different zombie servers, whom I've played with/against in your servers while under my normal name, Labidochrom, numerous times) was banned for language. I did at one time use the alias "Nuckin'Futs", with an apostrophe as opposed to a G (which I assume ZA Ezrab discovered by using sv_alias), but was never banned on any server under that name. I was fine with the accusation at first, but while attempting to explain that we were not the same player, ZA Ezrab went so far as to flat out lie (or from his point of view, bluff), and tell me that my hash code was the same as the player that had been banned, when I know for a fact is not, 1. because I listen to warnings when given, and 2. because I have never been banned from your servers. In fact, it's been years since I was banned from ANY Halo server. I have been an active member or the Halo Community for 7 years, and I've been involved in the management of several of the larger, more well known clans in Halo. I simply don't go around breaking the rules on other clans servers. He quickly dropped this line of reasoning when I called him out about lying about the hash code, though he didn't admit he lied, nor did he apologize for the accusation.
After that, I was starting to get upset about how I was being treated by ZA Ezrab, so I came here to check the rules for myself before discussing the issue any further, as I wanted to be sure that I had right on my side. After doing so, I went back into the server and asked ZA Ezrab again, how what I said was against the rules, and explained the rules as they are written here. He told me that he "his own set of rules that aren't listed" here. This was of course, just after ZA Brick got knocked off a ledge and exclaimed "fuck", after which he received no language warning from any of his fellow admins. Just after, when I pressed him for the reason I was warned, ZA Ezrab again claimed that if a word is not "needed", it is considered excessive. I inquired how Brick's exclamation was "needed", and was promptly told that I also wasn't allowed to argue with admins, and was then threatened with a mute. Not willing to succumb to an abusive admin on an obvious power trip (or who is at least very mistaken about the rules), I kept on about why I was told to watch my language. To which I ended up with a reply from ZA Ezrab, in which he backtracked everything that he had said, and now claimed that he didn't warn me because of the word "ass", that he never told me to "watch my language", and that he had only told me that swearing wasn't necessary. In the entire time I was in the server, the ONLY word I said that was remotely related to a potential swear word, was ass. I said it only once, aside from during my questioning about why I was being warned for it. He eventually muted me because in his words "I wasn't listening".
Again, if you will please view the server logs, it will confirm everything I have said here.
This entire thing started all because I had heard so many different explanations of the language rules, from so many different admins, and wanted clarification about them, so that I could follow the rules properly in the future, without getting warnings for doing something other admins had told me was fine. I was told to find this clarification by viewing the rules here. Then, when the rules here clearly showed that I did nothing wrong, I was told that the posted rules here don't matter, shown that ZA members aren't subject to the same non-posted rules I was being told I needed to follow, told not to argue with an admin, and ended up muted as a result. All this, while the other ZA members that were on simply laughed about it, and did "unnecessary" swearing of their own.
I have always enjoyed (or did, anyway) coming and playing on your servers, and as many of you know, I have done so on a daily basis now for several months. I have never been treated so disrespectfully, I have never been accused of things I didn't do, and I have never been flat out lied to by ANY other admin, on ANY other clans servers.
This particular situation aside...
Not to try and tell you guys your jobs, but perhaps the leadership could see fit to send a PM, email, forum post, or something to all ZA Halo admins about what the server rules actually are, so that your guests don't continue to get conflicting stories depending on which admin is explaining the rules to them. And if they actually are different than how they are listed on this website, update the rules on the website. That way all guests are treated fairly by every admin, and according to the same set of rules. It's not fun to be told you are allowed to do something one day, and warned against doing it the next day, by admins in the very same server. I'm not trying to badmouth ZA (as I said, I've always enjoyed playing on your servers, and until today, got along with all your members), but when different admins admin the server using different rules, it makes it appear that your admins are allowed to just make up whatever rules they want as they feel like it. I make this suggestion, because we had similar problems in clans I used to help run, and every so often, we had to give our admins a friendly reminder about what the rules actually were, to help keep the servers running smoothly, and our guests happy.

Just one thing - when I actually admined, I always interpreted 'excessive' as someone who is overusing the word. EX "FOOPING FOOP SUCH A BOOP OH MY FOOPING GOD THAT WAS FOOPING SHOOP. FOOP." (its censored. Excessive cussing is excessive cussing >.o )

In my opinion, I think that his statement was completely fine. Although I do think that it could have been handled differently...ie going to the site and complained instead of bringing the drama to the server.

Conclusion... Ez is wrong... and should of handle it a different way. Labi, ur language was not against our rules. and our rules it does state that u can curse, as long as u dont use it at another person and also it can be inappropriate. I will consult 2 c wat will happen 2 Ez.

I like Ezrab and always have but I'm not going to go on his side because he's in clan or because of the addressing in the server rule because I have noticed the exact same issue in the server in the past I find Ezrab to be out of line and multiple other admins to be guilty of the same crime
well for starters I think rab may have thought you were bullying Rambo, though I'm not sure since he never specifies what language he was warning about.
I have seen other admins also warn about Lang/player names that aren't against our rules, so I will address that tomorrow.
I apologize for rab if he was correcting you for Lang and not bullying.
however, all rule disputes are handled on the site not in the server so I support the mute. Rab should have ended the arguing sooner.
It went on for far longer than just what was posted in the quoted portion of the log. The quoted portion stops just short of my being doubted because I didn't take down names of ZA members that explained swearing as OK (as does your website), and being accused of being a different player entirely that was banned for language at some point in the past. The next quote picked up when I returned after having read the rules.
I certainly agree that I was out of line in arguing the matter in the server. I normally wouldn't go through all that in the middle of a game, but I really wasn't expecting it to become such a big deal when I asked what I thought was a simple question about what the rule actually was.
I also missed the "catch-all" statement about admins in the rules when I came here to view them, as I was looking specifically for language rules, and that was my mistake. Had I noticed it, I probably wouldn't have bothered going back into the server to push the issue further, as I'm familiar with the whole "our server, our rules" mentality, as well as the fact that what it essentially means that as a guest, there's virtually nothing you can do about an admin that polices the server using their own set of rules, rather than those that are set forth by the clan.
I appreciate your actually looking into it. The vast discrepancy between how admins choose to explain and enforce the language rules has been grinding on me for some time, considering I do use minor swear words on rare occasion when I talk (certainly not excessively or repetitively), and it's extremely rare that I ever do it in such a way that would violate your posted rules. I'd like to think that if one admin tells me something is ok to do, I should be able to trust that to be true, regardless of who the admins are in the server at other times. Like I said, it all started because I wanted clarification on how to properly NOT break the rules in your servers.

I also want to state that I did not even realize there was a player going by the name Rambo4 in the server (but can see them in the logs) now). I was talking about the movie character because someone else had mentioned him. Had I been talking about the player, I would have included the 4 in his name (and wouldn't have made an insulting remark about him in the first place). It looks like Ezrab may have thought I was saying that about the player, which caused the later confusion about why he warned me, not to mention why he insisted I was breaking the rules. As for my not "listening", that's not the case at all. Often (especially in Zombie Mod, the text scrolls up the screen faster than I can read it, especially when I'm busy typing. Which is a good reason why these conversations should happen on forums rather than in servers, lol
That being said, while this particular incident may have stemmed from a misunderstanding, admins explaining and enforcing the language rules very differently is something that happens quite often, and has for quite some time now, which is why I finally reached my boiling point about it today.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to look into this, and for actually putting consideration into how the language rules are handled.

As for the mute, I agree that it was completely justified. I wasn't upset about that, but rather about the inconsistency in rule enforcement and interpretation itself (not just from Ezra, as well as the false accusations regarding my having been banned for my language in the past because I have an old alias that is similar to that of someone who actually was, and being lied to about my hash matching that player's.
In the future, if I have an issue regarding rules or admining, I'll bring them straight to the forums (though I doubt there will be a need, as this is the first time in 6 months or so that there's been anything I felt I needed to speak up about)

I did not realize you were talking about the movie character as there was someone in the server named rambo, (like you stated above) I straight away jumped to the conclusion you were making fun of him. I actually found your statement about him quite funny but as I was thinking it was directed at someone I quickly said "lang" basically because if you were directing that statement at him it was totally out of line and uncalled for... I only dragged it out and didn't end it sooner because I wanted you to explain to me why you thought saying that was ok... I am sorry for the trouble I have caused and I admit it was my mistake. I hope next time I see you in the server we can actually play a fun game of zombies, lol.
