Well this week was the transition to the new Host. ATM, ALL our servers are hosted on a server with the following stats:
Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.5Ghz (turbo 4.2Ghz)
16GB DDR3 ECC @ 1600MHZ
10/100/1000 Network Connectivity
Dedicated 100Mbps Burst able Connection through a Direct Fiber backbone connection (Provided by WaveForm Technology)
1TB Main Storage with Dual 500's in Raid 0 connected via Sata3
Anyhow, after all the Migration and such i want some feedback about the move as a whole. I dont want to hear about disconects while i was re-configuring them or because it took longer for pro stats to get online. Nor do i care about KNOWN issues (Like beavercreek on classic). I care about:
Lag - Both temporary or permanent.
Crashes - more or less? script breaks, etc...
Availability - any outages that went unresolved for a while?
Compare to the old host @ NFO servers or that of gameservers (pro 2's old host). If this works out i will keep the setup like this. Also, race will come back in the near future, and maybe stats on classic, idk yet.

That i7 3770K CPU made me jizz! O_O It's currently the best CPU for gaming in the world as of now.

I played in classic today for HOURS and it didn't crash even once. My ping was the same as always.

I have to disagree, one can drop in a few quad core Xeons on the 2011 socket. or even a single Core i7-3960X would make it falter. but if 80% of the performance of the former at 1/3 of the price it was an easy choice when picking the components.
I did entertain the idea of a Supermicro board with some Quadcore IVy Bridge Xeons at about 2.8ghz with 32gb ECC but i wanted save on the upfront cost a bit. maybe later i will |

I've been having some problems where it will show my ping as normal but I get this weird lag where it slows the game down for like 3 mins and really sucks and is obv. laggy, but then it will go to being really freaking amazing performance. It doesn't seem balanced on average like it was last yr.

F*ck i7 3960X though, that sh*t's like 1 grand. You can easily built a god-like gaming computer with the i7 3770K for $330 and spent the remaining from that $1000 for other better and cheaper parts. So i7 3960X still remains a ghost to most of us because it's only like 10-15% better than the 3770K that you can get for a lot cheaper price.

As for the actual specs, Halo servers by themselves don't use too many resources. So with that amazing setup, you could easily run a whole website, 2 - 3 minecraft servers, encoding server and at least 4 halo servers. In my experience, a better CPU doesn't really offer better performance. I've always had giant increases in performance from using SSD (vs HDD) and a really nice graphics card alongside the CPU. Realistically, just for a Halo server - any old CPU would do just fine
As for the hosts, I can vouch for NFO for having the most uptime and greatest support team. Their servers run on the best wired networks in America (might seem laggy for EU players, but not sure), which completely destroy Gameservers or any normal Halo hoster. If anyone had played in my ATL when it was online (summer 2012~), you might have experienced the lagfree gameplay.
I haven't played too much on the Waveform setup over the past year, but I have no real problems with them. I just wish the pings didn't spike as often in Pro stats (all those suicide plasmas D

Well it is running a TS3 server, MC server, 7 Halo servers and possibly a couple more Halo servers in the future. Also, I'd guess Phasor is more intensive than a standard server.
They all seem fine to me!

No it isn't. The best CPU for gaming the world as of now in the mainstream is the 3960X. And that's before you look at server CPUs and experimental CPUs. (Fastest experimental CPU is probably one of the insane biological/chemical setups)
Even if you're looking at price, either an AMD FX 6200 or a Phenom II 965 is the best CPU for gaming for the price. Barely any real performance difference beyond that and into Intel high-ends. |

Ill grant you that cpu is minimal need in halo server land, but the scripting does take a punch out of it. also, an ssd would be great but i cant justify it in a server. so ill add a few scsi 15000 rpm drives or a newer velociraptor, jsut for the stats data which is hugely hd intensive.
NFO did have a great system, but lacks in their support for malicious vps bots. Also, the fact that their software limitations for phasor on their regular game server installs pisses me off (they added the ability to add it after i left them and bitched out their CEO for supporting an addon that modifies strings.dll but not supporting another that does the same. Gameservers was great for the new game hoster, after you get into high end setups or more then 1, its becomes a chore to use their servers.
Also, waveform isnt a game server host, they are just a datacenter/isp. so their backbone connection is greater (by my own testing) than that of either other hosts |

More like porn for weirdos.
I know a lot about this stuff but... porn? No. Not that exciting. Well, not exciting at all. Just interesting.
