Presidential Elections in the USA are run by the Electoral College: a proces in which voting representatives cast their votes for the president. The number of votes each state is allowed is determined by the number of House and Senate representatives each state has. Each state has a vote in which the members of the Electoral College vote. The winner of each state takes the total number of votes, not just the votes of the winners.
Members of the Electoral College may or may not vote for the candidate that the public votes for.
So - since the US Presidential Election is not based on the popular vote, but rather on the votes of representatives who have the choice to NOT vote the way you've suggested at the polls - do you think voting for US president matters?

Basically...If it wasn't for him, I would still be a nobody in this country. Star, you should know what I'm talking about. I just finished taking my biometrics yesterday =)
The voting system in America is complicated and messed up but the fact that representatives don't have to vote what you voted isn't the biggest problem. It's more to do with the first-past-the-post system and the fact that a Wyomingan's vote counts for three or four times that of a Texan's.
Also, Obama.

This vid can explain it better then me but in the beginning where the guy wants to vote for the lesser known candidate but is forced to vote for one of the 2 primary candidates, he has to vote for the one he feels meh for cause he doesn't want the one who he really doesn't like to get in office.

And, if you can't be bothered to watch the video, it can actually harm the more popular policies (2 left-wing parties split the votes between them, the less popular right-wing party gets in).

I can always be bothered to watch videos. Especially by Grey.
Didn't we have a referendum to try to introduce AV here? If it's so much better, why didn't it get passed?
I don't think I understand politics ... everything seems flawed and corrupt.
me, i don't get into nor like politics since it does seem to be corrupt and the past couple presidents has put us through quite a bit of problems such as obama who has been destroying more and more american jobs and sending america through recession. and then there is romney with the issue of planned parenthood and same sex marriage who says neither are important. but from the look of things we are still going to be stuck with obama. i don't care for either of them but that's politics. it is what it is i guess.

Did Obama help you study?

You know what, What's wrong with hurting the main 2 parties. I mean George Washington even warned us about forming political parties. It needs to be whoever gets the most vote, because you know, the electoral college is WAY WAY more corrupt than normal people. And you know, actual people who want to help the country instead of their bloody pockets might actually get in.
I don't like Obama and I'll never vote for him. I will not be forced to buy his crappy Obamacare which hurts businesses, and I don't want to deal with his crap. He's lied way too much (Look at the second debate. It was full of lies).
F*** the government. F*** all governments. Anarchy all the way.
Oh BTW Vote for RONPAUL. I like Gary but RONPAUL is totally awesome.

I never have understood why its not the one who gets the most votes. it should be the public voting for the president. not some random political people that probably get baught by the parties. Ths nation was started on the priciles of the people rule, not the governmet. we have no say at all in the elections anymore, its all up to the elctoral votes. not the people anymore
I am tired of you essentially calling me a racist, Brick with no evidence of this at all. I am not a racist nor do I dislike the disenfranchised. If I hated poor people I wouldn't ask to teach in the poorest school in my district.
You need to stop it or I will just delete your posts or lock threads accordingly.

The electoral college is not corrupt, it's just badly designed.

Whatever you say about Obama, let's not call him a liar when he's put on stage next to Romney. Romney actively and consistently lied to get however many votes he can. He would have lied to you all for the next four years as well.
What's more important to you - businesses doing well or healing the sick? Do you consider letting people who can't afford healthcare suffer/die to be fine?
