You should be able to upgrade any part on the computer that you like. I know that it was a shitty computer but for 250 you can buy the stuff to upgrade it yourself and still come out below 500.

I like the idea, and prob could build it better for like $100 than buying a new comp. But I just don't have the time Sad So I'm just looking for a cheap/good comp that's already built.

Question: Gaming PCs, they can be used for everything else too right? I mean I want this PC to be an everything PC. I'm going to be using it for stuff like AutoCad also as I am in Mechanical Engineering. I think I may have found the one I want. Because it also bundles with a monitor and speakers are 10 bucks. It would cost less than $700 for everything together. http://www.tigerd...;CatId=114

Yep you can use it for everything... But... I'm sure you can buy a computer that is a lot better than that one for a similar price... The processor on that one ain't the best neither the video card... As I am not in america I wont recomend any sites but IK that you can get one for about $700 USD with at least a 3.0ghz processor and 1tb hard drive with a 1 or 2 gb video card...

ok dudeman DONT GET A HP IT WILL FUCK YOU UP HP COMPUTERS ARE ABSOLUTE SHIT!!!!!!!!

and what purpose are you using this computer for? if its an upgrade from your current computer you are better off just paying an extra 500 dollars (1000 altogether) and get a good computer that will last a while as a pose to getting a shit computer that will need upgrading again soon.

I don't have $1000 Sad I spent more than $1000 on this one and it's 4 years old...Probably not even worth $200 now. I'd rather get something that is $500-$700 than be outdated in a couple years. They are always making better technology. I'm going to be using this comp primarily for School (Microsoft Office, AutoCad, etc.), Gaming (COD 4, Halo, COD Black Ops, and other shooters), and movies (DVDs not Bluray).

Mainly upgrading this comp because for one Gaming sucks on this. As you can see by the Graphics, there is no graphics card. I think it's only 128mb dedicated as well. Also this comp has been dropped quite a bit (laptop) been carried in rain, and I think it's also overheated. Which would explain that it shuts down during startup sometimes. In short my comp I have now is a piece of crap. I don't want to spend over $700 because I know I'll probably just update the comp again in 4 years. Technology moves quite quick, so a new OS will come out, games will be more sophisticated requiring a new graphics card, etc. It will be cheaper to just buy a whole new comp than upgrading everything that needs to be upgraded sadly Sad

Right! Start with the processor. Don't worry too much about ram HDD size etc...
You can always buy upgrades later.(if budget is a concern). At the miminum get a dual core processor 3.0 like Ezrab said.

Does the processor matter if it is AMD? or Intel? What is the difference?

Something like a Intel Core i5 or i7 is good, but just make sure its like 3.0ghz or above... And make sure it has a Dedicated graphics card that is at least 1gb +.

well as far as intel or amd I have been told that its like store brand versus name brand. you basically get the same product just intel is more expensive because they spend more money on advertising and have to charge more for their product to recoup that cost.

well as far as intel or amd I have been told that its like store brand versus name brand. you basically get the same product just intel is more expensive because they spend more money on advertising and have to charge more for their product to recoup that cost.

Yes, true but it is well known that sorta why I was recomending it... But if you buy one with a Intel Core i3,i5,i7 it tends to be just as expensive as one with a similar ghz such as AMD. Though if you are building a comp then no don't buy a Intel as they are quite expensive such as over here the Core i7 is $1000 dollars inc gst... Tbh even if I had the money and was building a computer I wouldn't spend that much on a processor... But like I said you buy one with something like a i7 already installed and it is around the same price as one such as AMD with a similar ghz.

A bit more than I was willing to spend but what do yall think of this? I'll save up for another 2 weeks to get it. Because honestly this is something I will be using for years.
