Hey, so I'm thinking of changing my minor at college to Political Science. My major is already Computer Information Systems with an emphasis on networking. ANyone think a minor in poli sci is a good idea?

Everyone that i talk to says that you wanna go for a degree in something you enjoy and have fun learning about. My advice is pick the one you like most |

Though I agree with your point, he is asking about his minor, specifically.
I don't see much cross-over between your major and minor, are you interested in Poli Sci for a specific reason?
Not discouraging you but it would be helpful to know why you are considering that as your minor.

I know lots of people that majored in poli sci and now can't find a job. I don't think minoring in it would be worth any extra money it will cost.

Poli Sci is like Business, It looks good on paper but good luck getting a job. It's a party degree. If you can minor in Cybersecurity or something of that sort it would be worth.

I'm not majoring in the stuff! Poli Sci will be my minor. CIS with computer networking is my major.

I am doing networking and security too as my major, and I have added cyber security as a minor. If you are interested in Networking and all that stuff, you should pick cyber security minor. Plus Cyber Security is hot right now. If you are thinking about your future and job, then I say Cyber Security. If you are thinking something else about adding political science as your minor then you must have thought something.

If you weren't planning on getting a minor before then getting one in anything def won't hurt. But you really need to consider what type of job you are aiming for after you graduate and aim for as much stuff in that field as you can. Also its very important you keep you gpa up as some jobs will look at that before they consider you.

I think it depends on what you want to achieve at this point. Do you want to land a decent internship/job? Need a high GPA? Networking? I will recommend a minor that will add on to what you'll want to portray to potential recruiters. Computer Information Systems and Political Science is slightly unusual imo, but I think play around with it. For example, you can use it as a Technology Policy Analyst for the government or as a IP Compliance Assistant at a tech company. It all depends on what you want to do, and use your degrees to your best benefit.
I'm now a busines/finance major and a CS minor btw. I was kind of on the same boat initially, except I was struggling to pick which major I wanted to be. I even had to transfer b/w universities b/c of this, which is something I really don't want to recommend.

Oh that would be nice if I was allowed (economically) to take I what I originally wanted: a double major in History/Political Science. But since no one's hiring (I orignally intended to go into politics, but I decided on computers instead to have an economic advantage).
Grade wise won't be a problem, but the scumbag school says I have to take math for gen ed (not required for my major... bastards) and math for me is academic suicide.

I don't know how this minor / major thing works, but I'd recommend you do something you'll enjoy.

Its only the last of the algebra!  I GOT AN A- in that class, so im here to help too.....

If you can take a class that may not be in your major but will help you experience wise in the field you are looking at, I would consider it!
EX, I'm majoring in mechanical engineering but may take a couple of computer networking/coding classes. That way I have a broader experience when looking for a career!
Just something to consider.
