Okay, so straight to the point so I don't waste your time.

I decided to upgrade my computer a bit more so i can play more high resolution games. I am going from an ATI Radeon 2400 HD Pro 256MB to a HIS Radeon 2900 XT 1GB. I upgraded my PSU to an 800W VioTek. Minimum PSU wattage to be 550 for the video card.

For some reason, I can't figure out why, I get no signal to my monitor when I use this video card. No post screen, no beeps or anything. I get a power saving mode then just a orange light form my monitor telling me its asleep. When I have my original video card in(2400Pro) the onboard graphics is disabled and is not being used at all. But when I put the new video card in the on board graphics kicks on and I can't turn it off.... Any solutions?

Things I have tried -

Uninstalling old divers completely(from registry as well)
reseating connections
removing every piece of hardware to try and get a post screen
tried different power connectors
I have tried other things but can't think of them off the top of my head. Here are the links to the old and new card.

So basically your computer isn't reconizing the card for some reason. Can you post your pc specs I'll be able to write bit more when I get home.

We tried so many steps through Xfire chat and even Google searched for more solutions and yet none of them had worked. So let's see if Master A or Java knows the solution to this. I remember having the same black screen issue before on my old PC from 2009. When I booted up my PC, it showed nothing on the screen. So I had to press the buttons on the side of the monitor to switch to the DVI screen display since I had a DVI cable plugged into my graphics card to the monitor and it finally showed the screen. We already tried that step, but it still didn't work for you. Sad

[19:58] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: oh wait
[19:58] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: i think i know why xD
[19:58] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: ok, your card on the side has pin connectors right?
[19:59] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: plug in the either 8 pin, 6 pin or whatever it has connectors from power supply to the card and then boot up the PC xd
[19:59] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: i remember that happening with my HD 7970 graphics card before
[19:59] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: it had an 8 pin connector and 6 pin connector on the side of the card where i had to find those pins from my Power Supply Unit and plug it into the card, and when i booted up, it worked
[19:59] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: your card might have 2 6-pin connectors since it's an old carc
[19:59] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: card*
[20:00] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: I ahve tried two six pins and the 8pin/6pin thing
[20:01] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: the 8pin/6pin is for crossfire x to be enabled
[20:01] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: Two six pins shoudl run it fine but still wont for some reson
[20:01] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: no
[20:01] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: you need to connect the pins in order for the card to load the screen
[20:01] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: cuz it feeds off the power supply for a powerful card
[20:02] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: so put the pins back on whatever pins the card has on the side of the card and then boot up your PC, and switch to the DVI display
[20:02] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: https://d2t1xqejof9utc.cloudfront.net/screenshots/pics/eb2777b78fbe57083c2ad3506783f51b/medium.png
[20:02] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: you see that on the bottom left right?
[20:02] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: those are the pin connectors a card has
[20:02] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: I know this
[20:02] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: so you gotta find the pin connectors from your power supply and plug it into the card
[20:02] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: I only need an 8pin for crossfire x
[20:02] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: I have done that
[20:03] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: it doesn't matter if it needs to be SLI, or w.e, it still needs the pin connectors in order for the card to load up the screen cuz it feeds off from the power supply
[20:03] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: my old HD 7970 had 8pin and 6 pin connectors
[20:03] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: It does with this card. If I dont need crossfire x i dont need the 8pin, but I have tried it
[20:04] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: but i think your card might have 6 and 6
[20:04] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: My card has an 8pin and 6pin
[20:04] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: try the pin and change the monitor display again
[20:04] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: so yeah, put both the 8 and 6 pin connectors
[20:04] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: change the display of the monitor to DVI
[20:04] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: and boot up the PC to see if it works
[20:05] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: i remember having that error before too with my HD 7970 and it wouldn't boot up my screen since my power supply and pins weren't connected to the card
[20:05] ! /q8;\  /q8;\/q8;\Link: my power supply had 2 6 pins and no 8 pin, so i had to buy another power supply with an 8 pin connector and put an 8 pin + 6 pin connector and it finally booted up my screen
[20:06] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: I will see what I can do... I will try n check in again
[20:06] [ZÅ]§mùrƒ~TAdmin~: Be back in a while unless i end up leaving
[20:06] <This user is now offline>

Let's hope the pin connectors step had worked. I totally forgot about the pin connectors to graphics card. xD

yeah was about to say make sure the gpu is getting power, most new independent gpus need a direct power supply. Also make sure BIOS/CMOS is reading it correctly.

If it doesn't work even with the connectors hooked up to the card your power supply or the card it's self might be faulty?

I'm guessing its the card itself. He tried all the steps I've mentioned including the last one about the pin connectors and still no dice. It wasn't really an upgrade from the HD series to the XT series. ATI/AMD first came out with the Radeon series, then XT Series, then HD series, and now it's on the R9 series.

It is probably a faulty card then, it happens. Try to get it reimbursed as soon as possible.

Okay. So i do agree with you guys on the faulty card, but unfortunately it is not. The card was working in a computer up at the store I work at currently. No problems. So it must be my motherboard. Only thing I can think of. I have no version of PCI-E listed on my motherboard and cannot find anything on the card as well. That is the only non-original piece of hardware left in my computer. Suppose it's time for an upgrade....

Thank you for all the help from all of you. Smurfeh out =D admin_powerimgoingmad~scotty~~modpower~~cheers~

Yes, sometimes the old motherboards cannot support all cards. I mean we tried many steps into getting it to boot up on the screen. Since you said it worked on a different PC with a different motherboard, then that card must be compatible with that motherboard but not the one you have. Anyways no problem and seems like the problem is solved. Thread locked.
